INTRODUCING THE NEXT GENERATION OF GRAIN PROBE

Temperature monitoring has transformed grain storage management, but temperature alone doesn’t always provide the earliest indication that grain condition is beginning to change.

Biological activity can develop within the grain before temperature changes become apparent. By monitoring additional parameters alongside temperature, store managers can gain a more complete picture of what’s happening inside the store and respond sooner.

The Multi-Sense Grain Probe has been developed to provide that deeper level of insight.

Probe Display

TEMPERATURE

Monitor grain temperatures throughout the grain heap and identify developing hot spots before they become serious problems.

MOISTURE

Monitor in-grain moisture levels to gain valuable insight into drying effectiveness, grain condition and moisture movement within the store.

CO₂

Rising carbon dioxide levels can indicate increasing biological activity within the grain mass, providing an earlier warning than temperature monitoring alone.

ADVANCED SENSORS,
POSITIONED WHERE THEY MATTER MOST

Housed within the tip of the probe, the advanced sensors are positioned directly in the heart of the grain heap. This allows the Multi-Sense Grain Probe to monitor conditions where changes are most likely to develop, rather than relying on readings taken only from the surface or base of the store.

EARLIER WARNINGS,
BETTER DECISIONS

SPOT ISSUES SOONER
Detect changing grain conditions before they become visible.

OPTIMISE COOLING AND DRYING
Make more informed decisions about when to run fans and conditioning equipment.

REDUCE RISK
Respond to developing storage issues before quality is affected.

GAIN CONFIDENCE
Understand what’s happening deep within the grain bulk, not just around it.

DESIGNED FOR

The Multi-Sense Grain Probe integrates seamlessly with the Barn Owl Wireless platform, bringing all measurements together within a single dashboard.

View temperature, humidity and CO₂ data alongside your existing sensors, receive alerts when conditions change and use the information to make smarter storage decisions from anywhere.

TAKE A CLOSER LOOK

The built-in LED display gives users quick visibility of key readings, while simple button controls make operation straightforward from the moment the probe is switched on.

At 1.8m long, the Multi-Sense Grain Probe is designed to reach deep into the grain heap, capturing readings from within the crop itself, not just from the surface, roof space or base of the store.

A robust outer casing protects the internal sensor technology, helping the probe withstand the demands of installation, storage and removal.

Designed for all-season operation, the Multi-Sense Grain Probe uses an intelligent low-power management system engineered to deliver up to one year of continuous monitoring.* The probe batteries can be quickly and easily changed by the user.

The Multi-Sense Grain probe is designed for straightforward installation. Probe data feeds directly into the Barn Owl Wireless web app, helping users monitor changing grain conditions remotely and make better-informed ventilation decisions.

FAQ

ask us
anything

Yes — the Multi-Sense Grain Probe is compatible with existing Barn Owl Wireless sites.

Because the probe uses our latest wireless protocol, your site will need the latest generation Barn Owl Wireless Gateway, which has been supplied with systems from 2021 onwards.

If your site has an older Gateway, don’t worry — upgrades are available. Contact our Barn Owl Wireless service team and we’ll check your current setup and advise on the best option.

No, the Multi-Sense Grain Probe is designed to work exclusively with Barn Owl Wireless.

This allows the probe to deliver much more than a single manual reading. Data from the probe is recorded, tracked and displayed within Barn Owl Wireless, helping users identify trends, receive alerts and make informed decisions about grain storage and control.

For this reason, the probe is not available as a standalone manual device.

At launch, the Multi-Sense Grain Probe is available in a 1.8m length.

We are always reviewing customer requirements, so if your site or project needs a different probe length, please contact us, your feedback helps guide future development.

Temperature tells you when grain is warming up. CO₂ and moisture help explain what may be happening before that point.

Rising CO₂ levels can indicate biological activity within the heap before a noticeable temperature increase occurs. Moisture monitoring adds another layer of insight, helping users understand drying performance and identify conditions that could increase the risk of spoilage or quality loss.

Together, these readings give a clearer view of grain condition and help Barn Owl Wireless support smarter, more responsive control decisions.

*One year of battery life is based on ideal operating conditions. Actual battery performance may vary depending on ambient temperature, frequency of use, wireless signal strength, network quality and site-specific storage conditions.
