Kestrel Anemometers

Robust, accurate and easy to use anemometers to meet most wind speed
and environmental monitoring requirements.
Typical uses include recording weather conditions during spraying, monitoring crop storage
conditions to ensure efficient ventilation and measuring accurate air flows
in critical horticultural growing conditions.

Kestrel 1000 Anemometer

Kestrel 1000 Pocket Wind Anemometer

  • Measures wind speed, average wind speed and maximum wind speed.
  • 5 selectable ranges of metres per second, feet per minute, miles per hour, kilometers per hour, knots and Beaufort scale.
  • Readings accurate to +/- 3%.

Kestrel 2000 Anemometer

Kestrel 2000 Pocket Thermo-Anemometer

  • Measures wind speed, temperature and wind chill.
  • Fitted with a precise quick-response thermistor, giving temperature readings in oC or oF. Combining this with the wind speed reading allows wind chill to be calculated to within +/- 1oC.

Kestrel 3000 Anemometer

Kestrel 3000 Environmental Anemometer

  • Combined electronic anemometer, thermometer and hygrometer in a single instrument.
  • Temperature, wind chill, heat index and dew point can be displayed in oC or oF. Relative humidity is expressed as a percentage.
  • The capacitive humidity sensor is factory calibrated to +/- 3% and can be re-calibrated in the field.

Rugged, pocket sized and waterproof, Kestrel Anemometers have a 14mm high contrast LCD display powered by a long-life lithium battery. All functions are controlled by three buttons.

The importance of wind speed measurement in:-

Crop Spraying

The safety of crop spraying is reliant on measurements of relative humidity, wind speed and wind direction; these measurements are also critical for maximising the effectiveness of the spraying process. This is a heavily regulated area with maximum permitted wind speeds when spraying to minimise spray drift.

Kestrels models offer fast and certified-accurate wind speed measurements, making it easy to be in full regulatory compliance.

Crop Store Ventilation

Using a Kestrel anemometer to measure the temperature, humidity and wind speed within a crop store is one of the best ways to ensure optimum airflow and ambient conditions.

If the crop store is re-circulating warm, moist air this can lead to insect activity and significantly reduce the quality of the grain.

Using an anemometer means that measures can be put in place to improve the air quality if required such as installing a StoreVent Building Ventilation System.


Vineyard managers use environmental condition data to maximise the harvest and minimise vine damage. The Kestrel 3000 monitors the key parameters of wind speed, air temperature, relative humidity and dew point right next to the vine. This helps determine the frost protection requirements in the key spring and autumn seasons. If the air is dry (low dew point) heat loss will be greater than when the air is moist, and the threat of a radiation freeze goes up. Dew point and temperature also affect leaf wetness, which influences the development of downy mildew.

Livestock Environment Monitoring

By using a Kestrel to monitor temperature and humidity in times of heat stress, and referring to the appropriate heat index, cooling measures such as increasing ventilation and misting the animals can be used.

The Kestrel 2000 and 3000 wind chill measurement feature warns of the critical time to provide additional feed energy and/or wind protection.

Environmental control is key to ensure the health of livestock. Effective ventilation, temperature and humidity control of livestock facilities is fundamental and can reduce disease and prevent stock loss, as well as improve the rate of gain and feed-conversion efficiency.

The Kestrel 3000 Pocket Weather Meter measures the key parameters – air velocity, temperature and relative humidity in the environment livestock are experiencing.

Casella Crop Airflow MeterThe Casella Crop Airflow Meter for grain is an essential instrument for the successful storage of grain in bulk.

It is a traditional method for measuring airflow blown through grain by under-floor systems and blowing fans to confirm that there is an adequate flow of air from under the surface of the grain.
